December reading project

Have you ever been treated like you're an alien? If you haven't, well good for you. You are completely different from Harry Potter, since he has been treated like this more than once. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, you will live through a million emotions and situations.

Have you ever realized that Harry Potter and Sirius Black are similar to a  great celebrity? A man who changed history and many people's life? A man that, just recently, died? Well this man was called Nelson Mandela. Sirius, Harry and Nelson were all treated like they were dangerous criminals, even though they fought for peace. Each a different type, yes, but still peace. I wonder if Miss Rowling knew about this, but I certainly think it.

Now, have you ever felt imprisoned from everything you like? Well that's what Sirius and Harry have been going through. Harry, kept away from the magic world and his dead parents, and once more Sirius, from the outdoors. Personally, I have. When I changed school, I felt like my other friends had been taken away. But then, I realized it was for the best, like for Harry and Sirius.

Once more, have you ever been stressed? Have you ever felt afraid? In the Order of the Phoenix, when Harry prepares himself for his hearing, he feels both. Afraid of not coming back to Hogwarts, afraid of the Ministry of Magic. He also feels stressed, and again for the same reasons as fear.

Did Harry do the right thing to go to the Ministry to find Sirius?

Personally, I don't think it's a question of rights. Harry was sure one of his only family member was in danger, and he ran to his rescue. The problem is, he should have continued Occlumency with Snape. He could have blocked out the horrible dreams he was having, and not have tried to save Sirius, who was not in danger at the time. When he rushed to Sirius, he made everyone in danger. At the same time, he did the good thing. If he hadn't, the Death Eaters and Voldemort would've heard the Prophecy, and they would've killed him. I think that Harry did the right thing. Now he has destructed the Prophecy, and everyone now knows the truth: Voldemort is back and so are his Death Eaters. Although he did the right thing up to me, he did not wish for the death of Sirius.

In this fabulous book, I think I have found a very strong message. A message very inspiring. This message would be that even the wisest and strongest man make mistakes. In other words, no one is perfect. When Dumbledore speaks to Harry towards the end of the book, he says this. No one, even him, is perfect and makes on mistake. When Dumbledore was younger, he thought that his plan for Harry did not have one mistake. But it did.

Have you noticed that in this book, their is a lot of foreshadowing? When Dumbledore wants Harry to do Occlumency, he knew that one day if he didn't learn it fast enough it would cause problems. And so it did. It cost Sirius's life and put everyone in great danger.

Another remarkable thing is the dialogue. For once, I have been able to read the feeling. When, for example, Harry was mad at Hermione and Ron for not speaking to him about Number 12 Grimmauld Place, I could feel his rage through the words. I can't explain how, but I felt it. I knew how Harry felt just by the way it was written.

Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place. When I first read this address of one of the titles, I wondered where that was. Until I read further on, it was a mystery. But when I learned about it, it all became clear. I love the way that Miss Rowling wrote about a normal address, until further on, in a very normal way, while it's, in the book, a very magical place. She wrote about it as if it was an everyday house, but it really wasn't. I think we could call this contrast.

She turned red as Ron looked round at her with a defiant expression on his face.          In this paragraph, I can imagine Hermione turning red while Ron, looking at her, has a defying look glued to his face.

She turned red as Ron looked round at her with a defiant expression on his face.     In this paragraph, I love the way how Miss Rowling used descriptive words, and not something like: her face was red and Ron was mad looking at her.    She used specific words and I love her elaborate vocabulary.

I hope you haven't had any connections to this book. Anyway, it's better for you if you haven't. Thanks for reading my response thoroughly, have a great time correcting it.

Response to hunger games

In the the hunger games, you have no allies. The book explains lots of things in this book like that if you are in a non-democratic country and do not get lots of money you can look for food and collect from the wild. If you have to, you might even break the rules cause you are so poor. Katniss stands up for her sister when she gets picked to do the hunger games. She did not want to lose her sister like she lost her dad when he was mining. This book is almost only for money. Cause if you have no money you can not buy food. So in that case you starve to death. Katniss did it to save her sister but also did to get some money for her family. I this story there was a lot of exaggeration and humour. This book had so much suspense that when a chapter ended I would continue.

This story makes me think of the other families that are poor cause int he story the  main character is poor. This makes me think that people who are poor deserve more treatment to survive and live for longer cause they suffer. It also reminds me of non-democratic country's. It reminds me of that cause they do events which get people killed. This reminded me of my cousins cause they are 5 children in one house and they eat a lot cause they are teens. They do not have lots of money.

This story had lots of humour in it cause at one point in this story for example the drunk person falls into vomit on the floor and then he wipes it on his face then says it stinks. This book has lots of humour in it so it made me want to read more of it so I could find lots of it. At the beginning when Katniss stands up for her sister, her sister starts crying. Then Katniss wants her to stop but she doesn't so a guy comes and picks her up and says your welcome catnip. He thought that was her name cause when they met she said it not that loud.

This book was so descriptive that when I read it it was like I was looking at the story happening in the real world. This story had description that gave all you had to know on characters places and all that stuff. In that story all the characters are like real cause they all have different kinds of attributes. Like Haymitch is always drunk. Katniss is very nice. Gale and Peeta are so nice and generous. The others are ether mean or kind to people they like.

This books key is suspense. It is that cause at the middle of a chapter or at the middle of a chapter and you have to stop you almost don't want to. In this book the suspense is what makes the book fun. Like in one part it stopped like right int he middle in the event to see who was going to the hunger games.

The setting in this book is one of the most important things in the book. Like before they go to the hunger games before it starts they say that the room is rich were they can meet there family to say good by. She described the room with details. Like she said that the carpet was fluffy and was a rich one. She also said that the room was so fancy that she had never seen one rich building like that in district 12. When they got not he train there was a shower and Katniss had never took a shower before so it would show that the people were poor and the government was rich cause of the hunger games. Int he train she took a shower and fanged clothes cause there was fancy clothes. If the author went into detail of one object and it would teach you what the object is and really good. Like in one part of the story before Katniss leaves the mayors daughter gave to her a golden pin with a mocking jay on it.it said that it represented courage and no fear. She put it on her and wore it to the hunger games.

In this book there are so many surprises that it would be hard to believe that there are no plot twists. When they pick prim as the girl to go to the hunger games so I thought she would go but Katniss said that she would take her place.

Why did they take Katniss to volunteer for the hunger games? I think they chose Katniss because she was the oldest child the family and did all the work cause her mother was in depression. I also think Katniss was a good idea cause she was sixteen and she got to see it more often and explain it well. It was not prim the main charter cause it was her first year to enter the hunger games. It would be a different thing but much less explained cause she is smaller.

December reading project l.m

This is the stage of life is when your going into high school and that it is time to take your materials to school and to make new friends.

I like this kind of story because the author uses a events of life by writing it all in in a journal way. I like it to because he uses a lot of pictures to show what is happening and what the setting is so I like it a lot because of that. And this book is all about of preparing for  high school and I have a connection to that because next year I'm going to high school and it will be kind of hard to fit in at the beginning and learn how high school works with all of the different teachers and the different classes that we need to travel to one and the other in the day, I think that will be though for the first couple of days. I say in this book I have a question and it is Does Greg get involved in his school years and into his homework? I personalty don't because his highest note was a d+ in all of his years so I think that he will need to be more of a nerdy kind of guy that wants to have good notes and everything instead of being the type of guy that never does homework  and gets low marks.

In this whole book the author shows us that clearly Greg doesn't have luck and bad things always happens to him like in one part of the book they are having an egg hunt and when it is all done they find out that his aunt lost her ring and everyone blames Greg even if Greg looks outside and he finds one more egg and he opens it to see what it is inside and then he sees the ring. His mother had said if you find the ring just go hide it where no one is ever going to look. I have a really good connection to not having luck because once when I was 6 I was playing a hockey game on a small rink and the puck was in a corner. I went but I fell and then my hockey stick fell right on my finger and after 2 months it came off but luckily I had another one under. I have a question for not having luck. Did Greg make the right decision by not being friends with Rowley? I say that it wasn't a good choice because now that he is in high school it will be really hard to find a really good friend like Greg had. But for real that Greg lost his friend is because Rowley got a girl friend. At the end of the book we find out that the girl was just going out with him just so that another boy gets jealous of her and then he wants to go out with her again because before she went out with Rowley her boyfriend was the other guy.

P.11 has speech bubbles in it, this is one of the feature that Jeff Kinney puts in this book and I like it because of that. There are also sound effects and he has a good sense of Humor  because he writes funny things on almost all the pages. He also uses specific words like accidentally and other stuff like that. In this book I find that Greg should make the right decisions therefore not being in trouble because on page 201 he goes to ask the sec 5 boys if he could get a science fair project because he didn't have time to do his and then he gets busted buying one.

In the diary of a wimpy kid books Greg is the type of guy that doesn't like playing outside, not doing his homework, not getting good marks and getting friends or people to do things for him.  I can really relate to him by the type of guy that doesn't like playing outside and always plays video games because I could play xbox 24 hours a day if I didn't need sleep in my whole life I would play all day and all night without stoping except to go to the washroom and then I would become the best xbox player ever.
My friend that always plays with me is in sec 2 and he is very good at the game I play and then I will become even better than him and he would be so jealous that he would stop playing

Out of control

Almost everyone will go through it , boys and girls . No, not puberty . Way worse than that . A thing that CAN cause potential suicide . It is bad , it is surely mean ! And it is not at ALL funny . You guessed it .

Bullying . . . . . . .
This book was a great book . Not only was it a different kind of writing because it is antique ! And the features were GREAT !  Also because the meaning was actually MEANINGFUL ! It teached me a lesson but I will save that for the end !!

Meaning : as I was saying before the meaning of this book was nowhere hidden ! Actually every page was talking about it .The meaning was "bullying IS real and the risk of suicide in it is MORE than real"! The meaning of this story I said was not hidden because it was told in every page from the one the three boys " raped " Valerie micron and on ! In other words from page ~50 to the end where they reconciliated . This was an EXCELLENT meaning because some people in this world think bullying is not real ! And that has to change In this world . Thanks to Norma fox mazer I think every one who read this book became a bit of a better person only by reading this book !

Judgment:  I have rarely seen a book as well written as this one and I ought to read the rest of her series if they as well written as this one !  I have nothing to approach to her writing except that she  Could have made the characters description more detailed because I had a trouble making up there personalities and it is not until mid-way through the book that I made up their personalities completely . But at the same time it made my imagination work and tell me how it thought they were like what . (Ex: snotty , nice, freaky ) or any other personalitie ! It was too so well written that at the end I got so into it that I almost cried !  It was surely reached my expectancies or maybe even surpassed them by 100 miles each ! I have a feeling that I will have trouble for connections !  It is hard trying to find other books that are as well written as this one!

Features: in this book many features were used but I will name the ones that stood out the most !

Dual narrator: this one was the most outstanding feature in this book and too it made us see the victims point of view AND the aggressors point of view ! So at every chapter I had to ask myself over and over again . "Who is right" ? This specific feature made the story a whole lot different on their own ! It was , again , THE most outstanding feature!

1st person : this one was good because we could still stay in the book and know what was going on because when there is 1 NARRATOR the story can be hard to be along and still know what is going on! When it is first person like in that book you always know who is the main character . So that is something that make the story more enjoyable ,

Imagery: this one was a biggie too because she did not describe the character to much and I think she used this to make us invent the character almost THE way we wanted to make it but not completely because we knew the attitude of them like rollo was nice but was a guy that would go along with everything brig said . Candy was the athlete and the intelligent who knew how to get his two friends with him and brig was the nasty leader who was kind of evil and who was a troubleMAKER.

Connections: this part is the hardest because the kind of book Norma fox mazer did on that book is not always easily findable because it is a stand out kind of writing as well as she uses to make a piece of art but in writing ! The only thing I could think of is in real life because on the news and everywhere you hear about that and again people seem to think it is only a bunch of urban tales ! And I can not make a connection to myself because I never got bullied AND never raped anyone or bullied so it is hard to think of what it would feel like ... OH , I know ...
Horrible !!!!!!!!

i highly recommend that book and it is for kids as well as for adults but adults might find it a bit short ! But if you are looking for a one-of-a-kind book ! You shall read .

Dork diaries

Response

Mean, mean ,mean Mackenzie the most popular girl in this school is mean to everyone and respects no one but her friends. But one time Nikki was so annoyed that she said what she wanted to say to Mackenzie like in the song brave were it says "say what you wanna say and let the words fall out, honestly I wanna see you be brave."

I think this book was fun to read because it was like in real life because Nikki was in secondary and she had many steps to pass because she was being bullied and in real life people get bullied and they need to pass trough almost the same thing as her. I noticed that the author made some humour although this book is about bullying and he did some exaggeration, example p.129 it says "I am not going to be able to sit down for a week," I like how he exaggerates.

Never give up and have confidence in yourself. I think that is what the author is trying to learn us by showing us that being bullied is not always easy and sometimes you need to say what you want to say because it's going to be more hurtful if you keep it in you, you don't need to be shy cause if you don't express yourself the bully will keep picking on you cause your an easy target.

Other features that I found that was helping us visualize the book was sound effects because when the author describes it we can see it but if he puts sound effect we can see and hear what is happening. I think Nikki did the write thing by telling Mackenzie what she thought and to tell her that she was annoyed because if she would of haven't tell her maybe it could be worse because Mackenzie would of find that she's an easy target to bully so she would continue bullying her.

This author made me see how it's hard to be bully, I already knew it was hard but I didn't know all the steps you need to go through and this author showed us what we needed to dots get this person to stop bullying you. If someone reads that book it can make him/her think before acting and to ask themselves "Would I like being bullied?," and if the answer is no, don't do it to others.

I liked this book because this author did a story on what could happen in real life and it gave a message to the one who had been bullied or the people who bullied. I wish that if bully's read this book they got a message because maybe they will feel how it's not fun to be bullied and they will stop bullying people.

If I would of been Nikki I would of done the same thing as she did because if not it could of never stopped and I could get more and more annoyed so I could pass to a higher step, I don't want to pass to a higher step because it could be harder for me and harder for my family too.

December reading project

The series of unfortunate events #5 The Austere Academy

Sacrifice, strategize to your problems, is all meanings to this book. Sacrifice because on page 78 " if you try to help us, you'll be risking your lives" " never mind that, you are my friend and I'll help you" the meaning would be help your friends, or family, because they need help, like the Baudelaire orphans came to this really mean school, and two other orphans helped them, risked their lives for their friends.

Another meaning could be to strategize your problems because the three orphans were in a lot of trouble because they were in a bad situation where all the teachers were mean, or boring, the principle was mean, and shellfish. No one could understand their problem but the other two orphans, who risked their lives for them. But to solve the problem, they used their skills. Violet the inventor, invented lots of inventions, and had a good plan, Klaus who reads a lot of books, found out how to fix problems, and sunny fixed problems by biting. Together, they fixed a lot of the problems.

In this book, there was a lot of features. A big feature was that the author talked a lot to the reader. Every chapter, he would introduce an expression and use it many times in the book. He would give warnings like " if you don't want to sleep with nightmares, don't continue reading this book" An example of an expression he used is" don't make a mountain out of a mole hill!" And he would use that in the story.
I also find he would use many simile, like at the begging on page 4  "Camilla spats is not like a trip to the ice cream store" It would mean that Camilla spats isn't a very good person.

A symbol,,metaphor, and a bit of foreshadowing at the same time would be on page 13 and there was this saying in Latin on  the school, and it meant "Remember you will die" It was a symbol to mean that the school, is a bad place for the orphans, they lived In a shack, the food was gross,

people would treat them badly, the principal was really horrible, and no one was empathetic in the story but the other orphans.

It was symbol for like a school where you will feel like you die, because of it conditions, it is a horrible place in that book. It was a metaphor, for the meaning of it like I said, and a bit of foreshadowing because in the future, you know all the bad things that happened over there. In the book, it seemed to be old for the technology , and the language. There was a lot of old words, and he would introduce some in every chapter. For example, on page 168, the author used the word "Veranda" and in the book it was when computers were first invented, and they were saying it was high quality, but it wasn't really because they said it would keep count Olaf out of the school, but it never worked.

A metaphor on page 169 witch kind of meant like be in your shoes, and acting in the persons place, " it may not be particularly wise, but it's a thrill in disguise" the orphans actually went in each other's shoes.( in their place)

In the world, people would treat children badly like in the series of unfortunate event. For example in a dictator ship, or in WW2. But, another feature was that it was exaggerated, because not a lot of people would be that mean, especially everyone around you. In the world, things similar to that can happen, but not that bad. My mom read me this book when I was younger, and was called Oliver Twist, and it was about an orphan, and had a bad life, and it made me think of this book because of their life, they are both not a good life.

It reminds me of another book I read called Mud City, because the main character of that book is homeless, she has no parents, and the book doesn't have a satisfied ending, just like The Austere Academy. But they both have a series to fix the problem. In Mud city, no one understands the situation that she is in, just like my book. That is why it reminded me of that.

I find that maybe this book was necessary to write because it shows what could be going on( but the book is a little exaggerated) in the world. But I don't understand why people don't recognize count Olaf in disguise. Especially mr. Poe, who saw him a lot and knows what he is capable of.  It makes me think that maybe mr. Poe is involved. I have a bad feeling about mr.poe because since the Baudelaire's have a good fortune in money not luck, and mr.poe is a banker and he was there when their parents died and was the first one to know.

In the story, it was a bad ending because they would get free, but count Olaf got free and took their friends with him. But in the book, there is almost no humour. The author, isn't serious when he talks to the reader, but the book, it is serious. But it makes me want to read the next book, because I want to see what happens to the kids that got kidnapped.

Diary of a wimpy kid: the third wheel

This book talks about a little boys life. Everything possible that is bad happens to him. Gregory Heffley had a lot of trouble with his dad, mom, his little brother and especially his older brother Rodrick.

Even though events never turn out the way he wants it to, he always takes the situations in a good way. He always tell him self that things will be better in the future.

On page fifteen, the author uses a kind of humour. When Greg is little and takes out the batteries of the controller, so his mom can't change the channels. The author uses a lot of sound efects like on page seventy five when Greg cracks his fingers and you see a little KKRACK! In the middle of the image. Facial expresion was expressed too when a girl named Baylee Antony on page 58, was mad because she got paired up with Gregory.

You could see the characters were stressed, when the author draws water coming out of their faces. You could see too the look they had on their faces. Like on page 60 when Greg was scared of Ruby Bird, so he let her pass to drink water. Thinking he could get hurt not letting her drink. Because, bad things always happen to Greg.

Just like Greg's life, bad things happen. You always need to be prepared of how different situations could lead you to. Just act normal, who cares if your not cool or you are not good at things. Just like me, Greg's plans don't always appear the way he wanted to. But sometimes, it leads to a good thing.

Greg rather likes sleeping than doing sports or activities. As soon as he's done what his dad asked him to do, he jumps right back into bed. My idea of Gregory is that he is lazy, has bad luck and he is clumsy. His life, I was reading, was very funny. The way the author express's his humour. The things that happens to Greg, are so funny. That is what makes me read that series of book.

The Loser List: Jinx of the Loser Response

The story is about a boy, Danny Shine, who catches a foul ball when his school baseball team is about to win for the first time in a lot of years. Luke(the sport guy) was going to catch it so they would win but Danny blocked the ball and it bounced back on the field. Everybody blames him for losing the game. So now everything that goes wrong is his fault. He is the school's jinx. The jocks are bullying him and everyone is against him except his best friend, Jasper.

I think the meaning of the story is that you shouldn't follow someone because he is popular and continue with his story like the jinx story. Everybody was saying that Luke would've catch it because the rumours said that and the jocks were keeping it going. When finally Luke decided it was not Danny's fault because Danny helped him for his project and saved sports because after the incident they were going to stop after school sports, everybody let Danny alone. There was two little message with Jasper because for his oral project he got put with a popular girl who only cares for clothes and makeup. She was always trying to change him. The message: never let anybody change you. The second one is that Jasper is a guy who doesn't care of what people think of him. The message is to be yourself and no one else.

There was lots of feature in this book like suspense. At the end of each chapter the author leaves you with suspense so you sort of have to read on. Also at the end of the book so you sort of have to buy the other book. Also sometimes in the book the author emphasizes a word like this: "My comic.....". He underlines the word. It is first person view because he always say "I" so we know how he feels. There is dialogue between characters. One of the biggest feature in this book is humour. The book is sort of his journal and he makes funny remarks and we see his point of view. Oh and one of the other good feature is that kids our age can really relate to Danny. This makes the story even better. There are many more features like the drawings, etc. The drawings are really cool and with the drawing comes another feature: exaggeration. It is exaggerated because imagine he talks about a mean teacher, he will draw the teacher and add things to make the teacher look mean like sharp teeth or a demon tail. It also makes the story funny. There are some surprises in the story like when the roller coaster stops. I didn't really expect it but I knew what was going to happen after........ Everyone would blame Danny!

A connection that I have is with a character. Asia, the girl Danny likes, likes more boys stuff like video games and stuff like that. That makes me think of myself because I am a girl gamer. Another connection is to Jasper who is really like a technological guy. It kind of reminds me of my step brother who for his secondary school year next year he got accepted to a data processing program. This book reminds me of Big Nate and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. More of Big Nate because the two characters like to make comics and draw. Also they kind of have the same behaviour. Greg makes me think of him because he loves video games and the books are journals of boys. It also reminds me of a movie I saw about a guy eating worms because he had to or if the popular guys would beat him up. The bullies remind me of the jocks and the one who has to eat the worms remind me of Danny.

Me, if that happened to a friend I would of stand up for him/her. Jasper didn't really help Danny or stand up for him. I think Jasper should've stand up or help him because it would of solved the problem faster, but Danny wasn't better with not telling his parents or a teacher. So why did Danny not say a word to anybody? I think it is because if he says it instead of being a jinx he will be a tattle teller or "stooler", and the bullying would start all over. Sometimes people don't want to tell it because if that reason. One of my friend already had bullying but he didn't tell a teacher and I told him to say it but he wouldn't. So I finally told one of the teachers and the problem got solved the next day. But sometimes people don't want to say it because they are embarrassed. They don't know what to say and are afraid. Maybe that was what Danny felt.

In general the book was fun. The drawings made it humorous and humour is my kind of book. He always puts little drawings to describe the situation but he exaggerates and it makes it funny. The thing that I didn't like about this book is that it a bit fast and didn't have that much details.
