The story is about a boy, Danny Shine, who catches a foul ball when his school baseball team is about to win for the first time in a lot of years. Luke(the sport guy) was going to catch it so they would win but Danny blocked the ball and it bounced back on the field. Everybody blames him for losing the game. So now everything that goes wrong is his fault. He is the school's jinx. The jocks are bullying him and everyone is against him except his best friend, Jasper.
I think the meaning of the story is that you shouldn't follow someone because he is popular and continue with his story like the jinx story. Everybody was saying that Luke would've catch it because the rumours said that and the jocks were keeping it going. When finally Luke decided it was not Danny's fault because Danny helped him for his project and saved sports because after the incident they were going to stop after school sports, everybody let Danny alone. There was two little message with Jasper because for his oral project he got put with a popular girl who only cares for clothes and makeup. She was always trying to change him. The message: never let anybody change you. The second one is that Jasper is a guy who doesn't care of what people think of him. The message is to be yourself and no one else.
There was lots of feature in this book like suspense. At the end of each chapter the author leaves you with suspense so you sort of have to read on. Also at the end of the book so you sort of have to buy the other book. Also sometimes in the book the author emphasizes a word like this: "My comic.....". He underlines the word. It is first person view because he always say "I" so we know how he feels. There is dialogue between characters. One of the biggest feature in this book is humour. The book is sort of his journal and he makes funny remarks and we see his point of view. Oh and one of the other good feature is that kids our age can really relate to Danny. This makes the story even better. There are many more features like the drawings, etc. The drawings are really cool and with the drawing comes another feature: exaggeration. It is exaggerated because imagine he talks about a mean teacher, he will draw the teacher and add things to make the teacher look mean like sharp teeth or a demon tail. It also makes the story funny. There are some surprises in the story like when the roller coaster stops. I didn't really expect it but I knew what was going to happen after........ Everyone would blame Danny!
A connection that I have is with a character. Asia, the girl Danny likes, likes more boys stuff like video games and stuff like that. That makes me think of myself because I am a girl gamer. Another connection is to Jasper who is really like a technological guy. It kind of reminds me of my step brother who for his secondary school year next year he got accepted to a data processing program. This book reminds me of Big Nate and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. More of Big Nate because the two characters like to make comics and draw. Also they kind of have the same behaviour. Greg makes me think of him because he loves video games and the books are journals of boys. It also reminds me of a movie I saw about a guy eating worms because he had to or if the popular guys would beat him up. The bullies remind me of the jocks and the one who has to eat the worms remind me of Danny.
Me, if that happened to a friend I would of stand up for him/her. Jasper didn't really help Danny or stand up for him. I think Jasper should've stand up or help him because it would of solved the problem faster, but Danny wasn't better with not telling his parents or a teacher. So why did Danny not say a word to anybody? I think it is because if he says it instead of being a jinx he will be a tattle teller or "stooler", and the bullying would start all over. Sometimes people don't want to tell it because if that reason. One of my friend already had bullying but he didn't tell a teacher and I told him to say it but he wouldn't. So I finally told one of the teachers and the problem got solved the next day. But sometimes people don't want to say it because they are embarrassed. They don't know what to say and are afraid. Maybe that was what Danny felt.
In general the book was fun. The drawings made it humorous and humour is my kind of book. He always puts little drawings to describe the situation but he exaggerates and it makes it funny. The thing that I didn't like about this book is that it a bit fast and didn't have that much details.
